The goal of our radio ad for & Juliet was to hook unfamiliar audiences with the story of the show by creatively showcasing the musical's incredible playlist of hit songs in an unexpected way. The production brilliantly weaves Max Martin's famous songs into the narrative, and we wanted to echo this in our ad. Our challenge was to encapsulate the essence of the two-and-a-half-hour Broadway show into a dynamic 60-second spot.
We focused on using clips of the show’s music as the storytelling device, playing with iconic lyrics to give them new meaning and context. This approach allowed us to highlight 7 of the 28 well-known pop hits featured in the production, capturing the vibrant and contemporary twist on Shakespeare’s classic.
Adding a special touch, Annie Murphy, known for her role as Alexis on “Schitt’s Creek,” lent her voice to the project – & Juliet book writer David West Read is an Emmy-winning writer for “Schitt’s Creek” and there’s a comedic synergy between the two properties that audiences continue to gravitate towards. Our spot aimed to excite listeners, drawing them into the unique world of & Juliet with the music they’re already singing along to in the car or shower or supermarket, and compelling them to find out what happens next, live on Broadway.
