Realizing a career in sports seems quite challenging to most able bodied people, while nearly impossible to those who are faced with physical barriers. Since 2017, Toyota’s vision has been to enable all people to achieve their dreams, regardless of these barriers. As one of the largest Olympic and Paralympic sponsors, Toyota is committed to building accessible skate parks worldwide, so that WCMX can one day become an official Paralympic sport.
Hailing from South Wales, 15-year-old Lily Rice is the 2nd woman/youngest person to complete a wheelchair backflip, achieved after only 7 months of riding, and is a 2018 WCMX Championships Silver Medalist. Lily has Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, a rare genetic disease that causes weakness and stiffness in the leg muscles. She started using a wheelchair in 2015, and in just a few short years has achieved many successes in her WXMC career. With the support of Toyota, she hopes to one day win a Paralympic gold medal.
