Soundtree Immortal Awards Entry 2020 Renault
The film tells a modern love story between an English and a French girl spanning three decades. Directed by Frederic Planchon, it's set to a new version of Oasis' Wonderwall.
It’s one of those songs that has a special place in public consciousness, it harks back to what now seem like simpler times, exuberant and defiant. It is incredibly poetic lyrically and really creates a world of its own.
The re-record itself is a very sparse and atmospheric take on the song. It was important to let the pictures breath and the performances shine through while the soundtrack provided an emotional anchor through the ups and downs of their relationship. We wanted the music to conjure up a sense of nostalgia as well as hope. To this end the backing track is very minimal and spacious, featuring only a piano and some vocal textures.
Casting the voice was also a process where we worked closely with the rest of the team. Our final singer's voice suited perfectly the tone of the film, youthful and yet wise, familiar and yet unique.
