Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia that gets progressively worse over time affecting over 850,000 in Britain. As it takes hold, the person's ability to remember, understand and communicate with their loved ones and carers declines – increasing feelings of isolation and depression.
With Alzheimer’s, people don't just forget their past memories, they forget the positive emotions that went with them. We believed if we could immerse somebody fully in a positive moment from the past they would feel those feelings again.
The Wayback is a virtual reality film series that surrounds the viewer with the sights and sounds from the past (for this film, the Queen’s Coronation street parties of 1953) in incredible detail - triggering memories and sparking conversations with their loved ones and carers with the aim of reinforcing their sense of connection, identity and feelings of self-worth.
