Lexus Aura Experiment directed by Carlo Van de Roer and Satellite Lab Produced by CASEY
The challenge for this spot was to try and make energy and emotions visible through the use of aura photography. This was achieved using high tech bio feedback technology which takes photos of a person's dynamic electromagnetic field and filmed using multiple lighting looks at the same time on the same camera using Platelight. Which looks were used was determined by biofeedback devices on the talent measuring their physiological state.
Within the spot, we showcase how people’s energy is elevated after experiencing a Lexus vehicle and each subject was monitored before and after their experience in the Lexus using two different methods.
The first method was via an eSense product that measured “Skin response, also known as galvanic skin response (GSR), electrodermal response (EDR) or skin conductance (SC) which is a method for measuring your skin’s electrical conductance, which varies with its moisture level. Conductance is measured in µSiemens (µS) and is the inverse of electrical resistance.”
The second method was via an Auracam 6000. “The AuraCam gathers data from an individual with hand sensors that take electro-dermal and temperature readings. Using a proprietary algorithm, a representation of aura colors are then projected onto a talent’s headshot.”
We also filmed multiple lighting looks at the same time on the same camera using PlateLight technology. PlateLight works with moving camera(s) and subjects, and provides the ability to capture multiple lighting set-ups simultaneously on the same camera. Each lighting scenario is recorded as separate footage of the same live action, without time offset. The lighting plates can then be combined in post for creative or technical flexibility and efficiency.
