Overview:
Filmed on the famous Warner Bros lot in Burbank, Los Angeles, this promo campaign for CNN’s ‘History of the Sitcom’ needed to pay tribute to the history of the much-loved sitcom, with subtle musical 'nods' to sitcom themes tastefully featured in the accompanying score. The visuals in this promo campaign are high-energy and fast paced, and we needed to intensify that sense of urgency in the music.
Challenge:
Working with LA-based drummer, Randy Cooke, we created an original score that would bring energy and excitement to the visuals. This percussive element underscores the music, with musical Easter Eggs paying tribute to famous theme songs (cue hand claps and lead guitar for 'Friends'). Creating both 60-second and a 90-second versions of this spot, we paid particular attention to hitting visual cues, to make sure that fast cuts were further accented by the musical score. With a drum kit being the lead instrument of this campaign, we were careful to incorporate musical tones as well as percussive sound, by adding bass guitar and other lead instruments to the sound pallet.
Results:
Since this successful campaign, we have continued to work on multiple projects with the CNN Creative Marketing team, and received positive feedback from both the client and the wider public in response to this campaign. The show itself received an 85% positive reviews score on Google, as well as a 7/10 IMDB rating (based on 283 votes).
