In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, ABC commissioned special documentary and commercial content about the heritage and traditions of Indigenous people. In addition, viewers in each local market of ABC Owned Television Stations received daily news coverage examining social and cultural issues that impact Indigenous people on local and national levels.
The concept for this film is based on the fact that a lot of Native Americans feel misrepresented, and how their communities feel invisible in contemporary culture. For this project, we created a true and proper representation of the contemporary Native American Community by highlighting members of several different tribes, languages, professions, body shapes, Afro-Indigenous representation, as well as a Two-Spirit cast member. The U.S. federally recognizes 574 different tribes, there is no single culture or language, so we focused on creating visibility for our everyday heroes, showing the world that we’re still here and always will be.
