Context
Inflation is on the rise globally, and Canada is no exception. Interest rates and energy costs are rising, grocery prices have increased over 9% year to date, and supply chain disruptions continue to put upward pressure on prices.
Idea
In a world of uncertainty, Pizza Pizza wanted to ensure that Canadians could count on one thing – that hot and fresh pizza would remain accessible – and affordable.
Three days after the biggest interest rate hike in Canadian history, Pizza Pizza launched the first-ever Fixed-Rate Pizza. The unique campaign offers Canadians the opportunity to lock in an XL four-topping pizza at $16.99 for 12 months, with no price increases, guaranteed. No matter how bad inflation gets, the price of your pizza is locked in.
Using a tongue-in-cheek tone that plays on language from the mortgage industry, digital videos, OOH and targeted display ads encourage consumers to “lock in now.”
Results
Pizza Pizza sold +30,000 Fixed-Rate Pizzas in first 2 weeks of the campaign. The program generated +90M earned PR impressions and was also covered in ad trades like AdAge and LLB, as well as international financial news outlets including the Wall Street Journal, BNN Bloomberg, Financial Post, CTV News and Toronto Star.
