German hip hop culture glorifies speeding. More and more recklessly, rappers promote a lifestyle of fast driving – bringing the German Autobahn spirit of no speed limits into the city. It’s more than just an expression of artistic freedom – they actually live up to it. Almost every week, rappers who lost their driver’s license for speeding or even caused severe accidents make it to the news. Since they are idols for lots of young people, this is a real problem.
"CRASHED LYRICS” aren’t regular radio ads. Instead, we interrupted rap songs when the lyrics glorify fast driving in the city – together with JAM FM, one of the biggest rap and hip hop stations in Germany. We invited relatives of real victims of speeding to “crash” songs with their story – and urge people to differentiate between rap and reality.
To protect the relatives, some of the victim’s names have been changed.
