Let’s! Revolution! is a clever mashup of deductive tile-flipping reminiscent of Minesweeper and tactical turn-based strategy. Each of the six playable characters puts a unique spin on the basic rules, inviting players to rethink their optimal strategies again and again.
Antfood’s captivating soundtrack and intricate sound design for Let’s! Revolution! breathe life into the enchanting world of Beebom, immersing players in an unforgettable gaming experience!
The game’s soundtrack takes players on an immersive adventure through the kingdom of Beebom, as they rise up against the despotic King. Each region in this retro-futuristic sonic landscape has its own unique sound. Phlox swells with lively melodies and dynamic percussion propel a spirit of discovery and adventure, whereas Cymbidium’s ancient woodlands echo with churning chord progressions and mesmerizing melodies. In the mystical lands of Saffron, dreamy chords, ethereal choirs and ritualistic percussion create a sense of enchantment. Upon reaching Beebom City, the bustling and carnivalesque capital trumpets an enchanting festive atmosphere but listen closely for a nod to the kingdom’s darker undertones.
Crafted across Antfood‘s 4 studios in New York, Amsterdam, Sao Paulo & Los Angeles, the masterful composition pays homage to 90s desktop game soundtracks, blending sample-based synths, acoustic percussion, and rich analog synthesis, creating a sonic tapestry that brings the game’s concept, illustration, and gameplay to life.
Each playable character in Let’s! Revolution! hails from a unique region beset with trouble caused by the odious King. Sonically, the score and sound design for each region (Phlox, Cymdibidium, Saffron & Beebom City) and their citizens are informed by its landscape, culture and traditions — but stylized through a retro-futuristic take on puzzle and fantasy desktop gaming.
In a testament to the Phloxian citizens’ unwavering strength and self-discipline, this region’s score expertly weaves together a tapestry of taiko drums, acoustic percussion, analog synthesis, and digital reinterpretations of fantastical flutes and strings. Antfood’s diverse arrangement propels a dynamic and unexpected harmonic progression, conjuring a spirit of discovery, adventure and the upward momentum of a revolution rising. Lively melodic flourishes bring life to characters. Sparse arpeggios evoke a foreign desert landscape, trumpet gestures represent the king’s royal reach and a pitch-bent ocarina-like wind instrument alludes to the musical composition found in rogue-like games and unmistakably pays homage to the iconic Zelda series.
Similarly, Cymbidium utilized hand-crafted wooden percussion organized in phasing cycles like Steve Reich and other 20th-century American composers. The gravitational pull of borrowed harmony and churning chord progression accompanied by deft adventurers’ melodies speak to the complexity and interconnection with the nature of Cymbidian’s ancient woodland culture. Saffron is an ancient world home to theocratic, matriarchal, magic-wielding citizens with serene floating islands. To highlight the mythical surroundings and the wisdom of Saffronians, its score consists of dreamy chords and synth pads, choirs, arpeggios and ritualistic percussion.
“Creating a full sonic landscape for a game was a crowd-pleaser for us here at Antfood. The game has its own characteristics and every region and hero has their own unique sound and particularities. Working with our partners at BUCK, we had the creative freedom to create an exceptionally wholesome audiovisual world for our characters to live in.” Marina Kagan, Executive Producer, Antfood.
