As one of Australia's leading insurance companies, Suncorp knows only too well about the devastating effects of climate change. In 2020 alone, 134,000 Australian homes were damaged by extreme weather. And as our climate continues to change, current building codes will continue to fail.
In 2021, Suncorp launched 'One House To Save Many', which was a project to design and scientifically test a house that could withstand bushfires, floods and cyclones. Then in 2022, ‘Resilience Rd’ took the learnings and techniques from ‘One House’, and scaled them to real homes on a real street.
Five neighbouring homes were chosen on a vulnerable street in the Central Queensland town of Rockhampton. Each house was analysed by experts, and upgraded with resilient features, so it could withstand whatever mother nature throws at it. Turning one of Australia’s most vulnerable streets into one of its strongest.
We created a 6 minute film that documented the project, featuring the mayor of Rockhampton, SES, builders, the families themselves, and other experts. We also created a content series with Suncorp ambassador, Johnathan Thurston, that taught Australians how to build resilience into their homes. The content was targeted to renovation lovers and appeared on the campaign website. And we embedded the idea into culture by integrating 'resilience' into Australia's biggest renovation TV show - ‘The Block’.
‘Resilience Rd’ not only gained press coverage, it also led to significant business growth and a lift in NPS, as well as helping Suncorp attain the #1 position in home insurance awareness.
The campaign was designed to teach Australians the value of resilience and how to make their homes stronger in the face of increasing extreme weather. And to continue to position Suncorp as an industry leader in resilience.
