we show our unfortunate character who wants to attend the Qatar World Cup, but had to stay at home. But is staying at home so bad?
Film opens on a billboard inviting people to celebrate the occasion. Our sad character looks at it. As he looks closer, he starts to realise that it’s not all celebration and fun: the crowd, the noise, the smells…
At the end, we reveal our message “sorry you couldn’t make it’ and the product with giveaways through a sarcastic approach highlighting the best reasons to stay in Kuwait during the World Cup.
CULTURAL CONTEXT
Please explain any cultural terms, references or viewing context which would be known by the local audience, but may not be known by our international jury.
The World Cup is the biggest event of the year which happened for the first time in Qatar, just a few miles away from Kuwait. Kuwaitis love football. It’s the nation’s passion and people unite around watching international games. Fans were however, facing a lot of issues to get there: no available flights, fully booked hotels, no accommodation, high fees to enter at the borders. These were terrible times for everyone who couldn’t make it to the World Cup. Or maybe they weren’t? We decided to celebrate the act of missing out on physically attending the World Cup, by capitalising the joy of having a free seat on the first row at Burger King to watch the games, with a tasty meal in the comfort of the AC, and the free giveaways people could get when having their Super King meal. Maybe staying at home wasn’t that bad after all?
