Merman’s Guy Manwaring teams up with GoodLife2030 and McCann Manchester to promote optimistic climate change action

Debuting at the IMAX cinema in Glasgow during the COP26 global conference, Merman’s Guy Manwaring, alongside creative team Sean Carey and Conrad Robson at McCann Manchester, have created a piece of work that promotes positive change.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, people have not only been derailed from their regular routines, but also given a chance to re-evaluate what a 'good life' really means for them.

GoodLife2030 wanted to put an optimistic spin on the crisis and to show how life 'could be' if we act now and make small changes in how we do things - thus allowing the bigger things to become easier to change.

It’s about a greater connection to oneself, others and nature. It is particularly relevant in today’s push toward a greener, less-consumptive advertising industry.

Guy Manwaring, director, Merman says: "When I first received the script from McCann it was clear that it was going to be a massive challenge to pull off, especially as we had just over a week to pull everything together.

The concept is also demanding from a performance point of view, with wall-to-wall dialogue and only one actress playing all three roles. It was a real pleasure to work with Alice Levine, as she was fully engaged with the concept and brought so much humour to her three performances. I am also hugely grateful to all of the crew who dedicated their time (and weekend) for the shoot."

Clara Bennett, head of production, Merman says: “It was a challenging project given the turnaround time of 2 weeks from start to finish but we had a great team on board. It was important to us that the sustainable ethos was not only “on-screen” but also off camera and we ensured that our carbon footprint was as low as possible. Our efforts to go LED, use local power and ensure most things we used were hired, borrowed, recycled or rehomed.”
