Full-service advertising agency Barrett has created 'Magic Box', a digital advertising campaign to promote products sold under eBay’s Refurbished banner.
In the three 15-second videos, shoppers reach into a magic box and pull out an unimaginable number of products—even some items that are too big to fit into the bottomless box. The work, including display banners, will run online on YouTube, Yahoo, Google, Facebook and Instagram. This is Barrett’s first work for the client.
Barrett developed the 'Magic Box' campaign to illustrate the prices, conditions, breadth and depth of products offered at eBay Refurbished. The spots focus on three product categories—kitchen, tech, and tools—and feature subjects lifting items out of the boxes.
“The variety of products and brands eBay Refurbished offers is endless,” said Todd Eisner, ECD at Barrett, “so what better way to demonstrate that than with a box that is equally endless.”
The work was designed to educate consumers about the choices and assurances offered by the program, allowing them to shop with confidence and find a variety of items to fit their specific needs and budget. eBay Refurbished, launched in 2021, offers multipoint inspections and industry-leading warranties on products that meet its criteria. Shoppers can discover refurbished items from brands like KitchenAid, simplehuman and Makita, all backed with a one- to two-year warranty. The deeply discounted inventory is sourced directly from premium brands or top-rated sellers. The thorough vetting process ensures every item meets eBay’s high-performance standards—giving people more choice and the reassurance that they’re buying the product to suit their specific needs and budget.
