BBC Earth Science, the dedicated science channel designed to be the digital home for the weird, wonderful and unusual, has launched an 18 part YouTube series across the brand’s YouTube channel, as well as BBC Earth’s TikTok, Snap, Instagram and Facebook platforms.
The fun, educational videos were commissioned by BBC Studios Digital Brands and created by After Party Studios. With themes covering Space, Human Body and Weird Science, the films are a mix of live action, animation and comedy content and feature digital creators such as Matt Green the rapping teacher and social media science star Julia Ravey
Separated into three x six parts and packed with surprising, shocking and occasionally stomach-churning facts, the explainer videos will unpack scientific phenomena like deja vu, introduce audiences to organisms like Zombie Fungus and discover just how sex works in space.
Launched in 2012, BBC Earth Science provides a home for content from the BBC’s science and space landmarks including Ancient Earth and Solar System, the best of our science archive, and cutting-edge original series including Planet Fix, Fractured Reality and Universe Explorers. From mind-blowing space facts to gruesome details about the human body, this dedicated science channel answers our audience’s burning questions and broadens their horizons.
Jamie MacDonald, head of originals at After Party Studios says, “The creation of bold, hyper-engaging original content that enthrals and entertains online audiences is at the heart of After Party Studios’ DNA. We are delighted to be working with BBC Studios again and incredible digital creators like Matt and Julia who bring to life some of science’s most fun and fascinating facets.”
Chris Allen, director of digital content at BBC Studios says, “We’re thrilled to be working with After Party Studios again, who’ve brought their characteristic flair to this exciting new snackable series, where you just might learn something! It’s also brilliant to welcome exciting new talent like Julia Ravey and Matt Green to the BBC Earth Science channel, giving our audience the benefit of their amazing science communication skills.”
The Space content has launched (pun absolutely intended) as part of Space Week across all BBC Earth Science platforms. Human Body and Weird Science will follow at a later date.
