It was up to Missing Link Films director Ben Tricklebank to bring the lads' music to life

Take That have returned after a five year hiatus with an original composition ‘Windows’ which will feature on their ninth studio album ‘This Life’. It was up to Missing Link Films director Ben Tricklebank to bring the lads' music to life with a striking new music video for the single. Ben brings fragmented and cinematic imagery to the piece which depicts the song's reflective lyrics, and beautiful soulful nuance to their performances. Particularly of Gary in the opening scene, you can almost forget it’s ‘Gary from Take That’ with his visual delivery totally moving in its reflective and emotional performance. Then there is a giggle out loud moment when you see Howard lifting weights..

Here’s what Ben had to say about working on the project, “Universal sent out a really interesting brief that was centred around a technique of connecting moments through windows within each scene. Then I listened to the song, and was immediately drawn in by it. It sounded so different to anything I’d heard from Take That in the past that it needed a music video unlike anything they’ve done before. It also captured a beautiful balance of melancholy and hope that really spoke to me.”

The Camera moves slowly and steadily away each fragmented scene, looking back, stuck on the past. Each of the solo scenes is linked by a transition through Gary’s eye. The window into his soul and also a visual way of indicating that these moments exist within themselves, linked through memory and imagination.

Ben enjoyed working closely with the artists on the project, getting their ideas and thoughts on the whole process which created a truly collaborative experience. Talking with Gary and Mark about the journey of the band and what it was like to bring out a new album after all this time. Ultimately it was these conversations that informed the approach to the video and helped develop the concept of the band's wings. The idea was that they are like three caged birds. The old ranch house on the hill is their cage. They long to escape but individually they aren’t certain if they can still fly. Only together will they be able to take flight again.
