This year, Canadians have been video calling more than ever before: for work, classes, hanging out, or catching up. So Bell, one of Canada’s largest telecom companies, needed to tell Canadians about their 15x faster internet upload speeds. Because it’s upload speeds that determine whether your video call is smooth or glitchy.
Zulu developed this TV campaign to show relatable, all-too-realistic moments of poor / slow upload speeds leading to incomprehensible video calls – and just how awkwardly funny they can be.
Director Shawn Z of Skin and Bones Film Company brought his trademark deadpan style to the spots, which were filmed under Covid-19 protocols at a single location – with some actors even being remotely directed (over video call, of course) in their own homes.
The result is a campaign that finds humour in the universal awkward experience of glitchy video calling and gave Canadians a clear reason to make the switch to Bell.
