The announcement cements Adshel Live as the UK’s largest digital Out of Home network of six-sheet screens and Clear Channel as the OOH industry leader for national digital reach.

Clear Channel UK announces the expansion of its Adshel Live network to 3,500 screens, further solidifying its position as the UK’s largest digital Out of Home (DOOH) network. Since its launch in 2015, the Adshel Live network has helped propel DOOH growth in the UK, offering unparalleled reach, impacts, and proximity to key retail locations across the UK - all while driving sustainability and social contribution. As a percentage of the overall Out of Home (OOH) revenue, DOOH revenue has more than doubled from 32% in 2015 to 65% in 2023 (source: Outsmart/PWC).

The 3500th screen was installed in Southampton, one of the 350 UK cities and towns where Adshel Live is now present, with 205 being uniquely covered by the network in terms of digital roadside footprint.

With more than 628m impacts and a national reach of 36m fortnightly (source: Route 51), Adshel Live continues to deliver more impacts and reach than its competitors, with 66% coverage across the UK alone.  Every fortnight, Adshel Live reaches 32% more than all other roadside digital 6-sheets combined.

Richard Bon, UK managing director and Europe commercial lead at Clear Channel said, “As we welcomed the 3500th Adshel Live screen, the network has never been in a stronger position as the no.1 for impacts and reach. Through its scale, flexibility and ability to leverage smart planning data, Adshel Live is the one-to-many platform for brands, helping advertisers reach their audiences every single day. You just can’t really do National Reach without Clear Channel!”

Adshel Live’s strategic placement in proximity to key retail destinations also offers significant benefits. The network covers twice as many Boots and top four grocery locations as its nearest competitors, putting brands in closer contact with consumers at essential shopping points. On average, Adshel Live screens are positioned within 500 metres of twice as many key retail stores as other networks, giving brands a distinct advantage in engaging consumers near critical touchpoints.

Joanna Williams, head of media UK at Samsung Electronics said, “Adshel Live delivers a powerful dual role in our campaigns – a high-quality broadcast presence that can reach a mass audience, and coverage of key retail hotspots to ensure that our products are always visible near stores to drive sales. Quality at scale is a winning combination, especially for our new product launches.”

As the network grows, the media owner further demonstrates its commitment to reducing environmental impact. Every new Adshel Live screen installed or upgraded is 50% more energy efficient than the previous generation. Clear Channel also purchases 100% renewable energy, and screens are switched off daily between 12 am and 5 am, reducing energy consumption by 16%.

The OOH industry returns 46p of every £1 in revenue to the communities where it operates. With thousands of Adshel Live screens nationwide, the advertising displayed across the network contributes financially and amplifies the voices of charities and social good organisations, helping to raise awareness of causes that matter and drive positive impact beyond monetary support.

Conrad Bird, director, cross-government campaigns and marketing, Government Communication Service said, “In today’s fast-paced world, reaching all communities inclusively and effectively is a significant challenge for the public sector. Adshel Live serves as a vital public notice board for us, allowing us to disseminate important information quickly and reliably. As a trusted advertising medium, it ensures that our messages are seen and heard by everyone, making it an essential tool for public communication. And even better, it’s right in the heart of the communities we’re trying to speak to, helping to provide a public service itself. A poignant example of this was the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, where every Adshel Live screen in the country immediately joined in the commemoration of her passing.”

In 2023, Clear Channel donated £20 million worth of advertising space, including campaigns for charity partners The Prince’s Trust, Keep Britain Tidy, Historic England, Scope, and the ADHD Foundation – Neurodiversity Charity among others.

Since 2021, Clear Channel has been supporting Black entrepreneurs with free advertising space across Adshel Live via its Compass scheme, creating more visibility for Black-owned businesses on UK high streets.
