Coldplay's Beautifully Intricate Video Tells a Universal Story of Love

Blinkink’s Isabel Garrett directs a global team of 28 filmmakers and artists to tell a universal story of life, love and belonging for Coldplay’s ‘🌈’ (also styled as ‘ALiEN HiTS/ALiEN RADiO’).

The film includes beautifully intricate 2D animated sequences, hand-crafted stop-motion moments and contributions from documentary filmmakers, live action directors and photographers, who all bring a unique and varied perspective to the film. 

Speaking about the process, Isabel said ‘it was important that we worked with artists from all corners of the world’ and that she ‘wanted each collaborator to have the space to really pull the film in a new direction.'

She goes on to say, ‘it was important that the video felt expansive, unprescribed and spontaneous - but also rooted in something real, not entirely random.

Each director received a bespoke brief from Isabel, centred around common themes of nature and togetherness. They were encouraged to bring their own unique style to their section, with Isabel saying that she ‘tried to choose directors whose work felt tonally connected in some way. There’s a big range of styles in there but they’re all quite delicate and sensitive, and in each one you can really feel the hand of the artist.’

Blinkink directors Sam Gainsborough, Will Wightman and Zach Tavel feature amongst the 28 selected filmmakers, alongside frequent Blinkink collaborators Daniel Quirke and Studio Gruff.

The result is a film that feels like a love letter to collaboration, its mosaic-like structure encompasses multiple styles and feelings, celebrating both our differences and our unity. 

The track will premiere at the Lightroom in King’s Cross on the 22nd January as part of Coldplay’s ‘A Film for The Future’ project.

'A Film for The Future' combines visuals for each track on ‘Moon Music’, including Blinkink director Raman Djafari’s Annie Award nominated and UK Music Video Award winning music video for ‘feelslikeimfallinginlove.’

'I hope it’s a hopeful video. To me the track is searching for a light and finding it… there is so much darkness everywhere, but there is still beauty and hope.. in little, unexpected moments.' said Isabel Garrett.
