North Carolina-based Chirp Films produced the new campaign for Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, starring David Koechner of 'Anchorman' and 'The Office' fame. In the role 'VP of Party', Koechner energetically assures the viewer that Harrah’s is exceptionally well-rounded and partying isn’t all they do (they also do soirées, feasts, get-downs, barn burners, and shindigs…).
Doron Max Hagay worked closely with the agency to create the spot, and his ability to take highly produced projects from concept to air in days was an asset in this production. ”I appreciated how the agency embraced creative ideas, which allowed us to maximize our schedule. We prioritized being able to play around a bit, which freed us up to focus on the most important piece of these spots: David,” said Hagay.
Hagay continued, “Filming in a casino is so fun, with all the colors, sounds, and activity. There’s also such a rich cinematic history of films that feature casinos, and the DP Arlene Muller tapped into that vintage feeling with the look.”
A comedic director with serious chops, Doron Max Hagay balances realism and absurdity with deadpan humor to deliver the best possible creative. As a digital shorts director at “Saturday Night Live,” he’s worked with A-List talent such as Will Ferrell, Harry Styles, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Adam Driver, Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo, Eddie Murphy, RuPaul, and Daniel Craig.
Some SNL shorts include “Heinz Relax,” “Children’s Clothing Ad,” “That’s the Game,” and “Tasty Toaster Tarts.” Hagay recently directed the Netflix standup comedy special “Psychosexual” starring Joel Kim Booster, which received a 2023 Critics Choice Award nomination; a Showtime musical comedy special called “Have You Heard of Christmas?” starring Matt Rogers; and he co-wrote and directed the digital series “Kate Berlant Teaches” for Comedy Central. His latest project, "She Keeps Me Young," which he co-wrote and will be his feature directorial debut, was selected to participate in the 2023 Tribeca Creator's Market, part of the Tribeca Film Festival.
Harrah’s is North Carolina’s first casino, nestled amongst the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. Hagay finished by saying, “This was my first time visiting North Carolina and I had a great time; the crew was top-notch and some of the best I’ve worked with.”
