Ferguson Rises director joins roster of award-winning documentary filmmakers for commercial representation

Nonfiction Unlimited, creative production home to a roster of notable documentary directors working on commercial and branded projects, announces the signing of award-winning filmmaker Mobolaji Olambiwonnu for global representation in the commercial, branded entertainment, and digital space.

A filmmaker at home in both commercial and documentary worlds, Mobolaji’s career spans 20 years directing branded content, commercials, corporate videos and documentaries for clients such as HBO, Lion's Gate, Discovery Channel, PBS, Gehry Partners, Sony, and LA Metro in a series of 28 mini documentaries that highlight community voices and artists giving context to the significance of the K Line unfolding over the course of 10 years. Honors include 3 Hermes Creative Gold awards, AVA Digital Gold Award, an international Videographer Award, and a Director's Guild of America (DGA) award for his work.

Mobolaji’s documentary feature directorial debut, Ferguson Rises, was honored with the Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award, and the Pan African Film Fest Audience Award, among others, and was the only documentary chosen to represent PBS/Independent Lens’ 2021 fall slate at the Television Critics Association (TCA). Described as an act of remembrance and quiet defiance, the the film, executive produced by Academy/Emmy Award Winner TJ Martin, acclaimed producer Gigi Pritzker, Grammy Award Winners RZA and Aloe Blacc, and acclaimed actor David Oyelowo, is a worthwhile testament to keeping the victims of police violence alive in our minds. It informs, empowers and inspires viewers to continue difficult conversations through a thoughtful tapestry of voices from Brown’s family, activists, locals and law enforcement officials who all reflect on how to combat racism and have black lives truly matter.

“As a director committed to artistic and humanizing portrayals of underrepresented groups, Nonfiction Unlimited feels like the perfect place to bring that passion to support brands in an authentic and natural way. Their confident approach to creative opportunities and support of filmmakers and storytelling in the commercial space really makes me feel welcome as a member of their team. I am excited to see and create what is next,” shared Olambiwonnu.

Patrick Degan, executive producer at Nonfiction, added: “What Mobolaji has artfully done with Ferguson, by taking such senseless acts and crafting a powerful and accessible story, is how our conversation first began. He’s compassionate in his technique and focuses on individuals and underrepresented communities in so much of his work. The awareness he brings will be impactful for advertisers wanting to focus on authentic human, relatable stories. I’m really looking forward to our collaboration.”

The addition of Mobolaji to Nonfiction Unlimited’s roster continues the company’s commitment to the authentic and documentary content in advertising and broader branded entertainment projects.
