DOMO Director André Stringer Releases Short Film ‘Bathed in Light’

Emmy award-winning director, writer, musician and co-founder of creative collaboration company DOMO, André Stringer, has unveiled his latest short film titled ‘Bathed in Light’. 

Casting a cinematic lens over themes such as identity, selfhood, disorientation and the sublime, the film takes audiences back to the ‘70s, as protagonist Lynn is forced to confront her own identity following an interaction with an otherworldly orb of light. Bridging multiple dimensions and exploring the implications of parallel worlds, the film invites viewers to experience the ephemeral and contend with the multiplicity of self. 

A striking score co-composed by André and partner Ryan Dunn accompanies the narrative. A sonic landscape of haunting melodies underscores the film’s eeriness and transcendent atmosphere, contributing to the overarching themes of disorientation and the sublime. 

“The concept for this film emerged from an exploration of the human need to confront the unknown and an obsession with the feeling of disorientation and the desire to evoke an out-of-body experience for the audience. I sought to capture the essence of the sublime—interacting with something terrifying and beautiful. The film invites viewers to experience the brief, the rush of movement around an individual, and the overwhelming fear of being inspected and scanned.” said André.

André, alongside cinematographer Chris Herr, made use of drone technology to craft the free-flowing orb and achieve the look and feel of it being an agile, otherworldly presence. A large FPV drone with an LED rig built around it acted as the orb, and its ability to move freely allowed for it to be filmed by a moving camera platform, another drone, and even a hand-held camera, ensuring that the cinematography was fuelled by dynamism and constant momentum.

André Stringer, director, commented, “These types of self-generated projects are the life-blood of DOMO.  We always strive to expand our storytelling chops — our playground of sorts — writing, directing, making music. This is what we love to do!”
