The TOKYO founder directed the ninth episode of the drama surrounding the availability of AI technology

TOKYO's founder and film director Eiji Tanigawa has now fulfilled his longtime dream to direct a drama, which comes in the form of a 30-minute TV drama, produced as part of FOD's original omnibus series, 'Nogizaka Cinemas -STORY of 46-'. The series is a collaboration between members of the Japanese pop idol band, Nogizaka 46, and promising film directors who have stepped into the TV drama industry for the first time. Eiji has written and directed the 9th episode which will be available to watch on FOD (Fuji Television Network, Inc.'s streaming service) and on Fuji TV.

About episode #9 'Vulnerability'

"The air is clean and fresh today, why not take a deep breath?"

It is the year 2026. The rapid development of AI technology has given rise to a world-wide technology development war. Androids have become a necessary and indispensable part of everyday life; it is no longer possible to imagine a single day without them. Here in Japan, after struggling through a post-Olympic economic slump, the long-awaited state-of-the-art android - developed by the joint efforts of the government and private sectors - has finally been released to the public. Making the top news of major media outlets all over the world, the new product can be seen on huge screens throughout big cities. Android, Messiah (Shiori Kubo), gazes out from the window of a police car.

Eiji commented: “The idea for 'Vulnerability' was born out of the anxieties and feelings of suffocation that we experience in the modern society in which we live today. It is a society in which one can be judged and criticised over and over again in the name of righteousness and correctness by people who have no connection to our lives. But what actually is righteousness in the first place? Do perfectly correct humans exist? What is a human anyway? What does it mean to live? In pursuit of bringing clarity to these obscure questions, I came up with the idea of creating a completely perfect God-like creature, and it was then that Messiah was conceived; the very symbol of correctness, the perfect product.”
