Eurovision Metal Monsters Lordi Become Unlikely Faces of OnePlus Campaign

Campaign from The Romans merges the worlds of heavy metal music and cutting-edge technology to pay homage to The OnePlus Nord 4

The Romans has partnered with leading global technology brand OnePlus to launch two world firsts; The OnePlus Nord 4 - the only all-metal unibody phone of the 5G era - and a metal music anthem created in homage to it. 

The ferocious single ‘Made of Metal’ is now live on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services. It comes following an unholy alliance between the Eurovision legends Lordi, and OnePlus, renowned for its innovative technology and its Never Settle DNA, making this a match made in heaven VALHALLA. 

‘Made of Metal’ takes metal to its extremes, fusing chainsaw-sharp guitar riffs, stinging keys, and industrial-strength drums to create a Richter-scale rhythm that commands the banging of heads. 

The lyrics speak to the track’s technological inspiration; “Steel hard and screamin’ look at me” and “Charged up with power to prevail'' reference the OnePlus Nord 4’s all-metal unibody design and future-proof capabilities, while at the same time celebrating the brand’s love of all that is METAL. The anthemic chorus of “Never settle, I am made of metal” delivers an iron-clad earworm that drills itself into the listener’s brain.

Alongside the head-banging song, the frightening five-some of Lordi have starred in a behind the scenes film. The short film follows the band in the studio as they grapple with the novelty of the first all-metal phone in the 5G era and the staggering capabilities that come with it. 

Celina Shi, chief marketing officer at OnePlus said, “We knew the OnePlus Nord 4 was an exceptional phone, so we needed to do something exceptional to bring it to market. 

“So, when The Romans came to us with this idea of a not so typical smartphone partnership based on a shared passion for metal, we knew it would be a hit. However, when we heard the song for the first time, we realised Lordi not only delivered the song of the summer but that we share the same Never Settle DNA… So for that, rock on! [presses play again on Made of Metal for fifth time in a row]”.

Jordan Kavanagh, associate creative director at The Romans said, “There was a line in the brief from OnePlus that encouraged us to get weird and have some fun with it, which was heavy metal monster music to creative ears. We decided to turn it up to 11. From the pan European fly poster tease to creating and producing the record and supporting content, working with Lordi has been blast from start to Finnish”.

We love metal, and so do OnePlus, which is why we jumped at the challenge of writing and producing a song inspired by world's only metal unibody phone of the 5G era.
