Award winning New York commercial production company D L A Films will present its debut feature film SUN this coming Sunday at Everyman’s Screen On The Green theatre.
SUN is a relentless audio visual experience charting the horrifying effects of intergenerational trauma set over the course of one dark and hellish night in NYC. In the vein of horrors dealing with a descent into madness The Shining, Black Swan and The Babadook and tense compressed narratives After Hours, Bad Lieutenant and Irreversible, SUN is a New York movie with a New York cast built around a New York art form.
Both the lead actor 'Storm' who plays SUN and the actor who plays his father 'Ghost' are practitioners of Bruk Up- an underground dance form. Originating in Jamaica Bruk Up quickly spread through New York’s Caribbean neighbourhoods where pioneers like Storm and Ghost adopted and furthered its traditional roots incorporating elements of body popping, hip-hop and dancehall.
Most importantly these young men channelled elements of their broken inner selves and the pain that they have experienced both mentally and physically and transformed it into something effortless and beautiful.
SUN is the first ever film to use Bruk Up dancers and their art form as part of a fictional narrative. Their dance is integral to the film and the film's climax is built around it- a first for a horror film!
This exclusive screening will be followed by a live performance by Storm and Ghost and a Q&A session with D L A Films.
