Square Peg has announced the addition of editor Gary Coogan to its team. Renowned for his exciting and imaginative editing style, Gary brings a calm, considered demeanour and a reputation for making his distinctive creative mark while delivering exceptional work with efficiency—even under the most intense pressure.
Gary began his career at Rankin Films as their in-house editor, where he honed his technical expertise and developed his own unique style, thriving at the cutting edge of fashion, beauty, and music videos. Over the years, he has built a portfolio that includes high-profile clients such as Nike, BBC, ITV2, Gucci, and G-Star Raw.
Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, and skilled at enhancing projects with Adobe After Effects and Photoshop, Gary’s versatility spans commercials, fashion projects, music videos and short films. Originally from the North West of England near Preston, Gary moved to London in 2011 to pursue a career in film. Starting as a runner on film sets, he quickly discovered his passion for editing. His career has been enriched with unique experiences, including working as a focus puller on Taika Waititi’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople during a life-changing trip to New Zealand.
Outside of the editing suite, Gary channels his creativity into writing and directing short films and music promos. A lover of cinema, music, drumming and travelling the great outdoors. Among his most memorable experiences are swimming with whale sharks in the Philippines.
