Created by agency Heimatt\TBWA, production company TPF-Tony Petersen Film GmbH and Revolver Films, in collaboration with Icon Films Romania, ‘The Square Meter’ campaign for German DIY retailer HORNBACH scooped up The Grand Prix award in Film Craft yesterday at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Alongside this the project also won two Gold Lions for Achievement in Production and Direction and 1 Silver Lion in Cinematography. The award win follows a successful award season for the project, having already swept up a number of accolades at Ciclope, The British Arrows, The One Show and Shots to name a few.
This year the Film Craft Lions, which celebrates onscreen artistry, received 1552 entries and 46 Lions were awarded: seven Gold, 16 Silver, and 22 Bronze. The Grand Prix was awarded to the Home Improvements store HORNBACH for ‘The Square Meter’ project by Heimat\TBWA, Berlin, Germany, TPF-Tony Petersen Film GmbH and Revolver, with the help of Icon Films in Romania who provided production services.
With the tagline that “Every square meter deserves to be the best in the world” the film celebrates creativity even in the smallest space. Using a high level of craftsmanship, the effects-filled spot was shot in Romania by Icon Films, part of Compass Rose group. The film follows a man navigating through a number of unique square-metre sets that are his home, nodding to constantly shrinking living spaces and rising costs.
Talking of the award, Film Craft jury president, Prasoon Pandey, ad film maker at Corcoise Films India, said: “It is not often that one gets to see all the cinematic arts come together so perfectly like synchronised swimming, to turn a DIY subject into a film with magical intrigue. This film is a wonderful reminder not only to all creatives and filmmakers but also to clients that there is nothing called ‘low-interest category’.”
