Have you already heard of .fount's weekly feature called spotlight? No? Then it is about time! Once a week .fount showcases one of its outstanding talents from the world of film on its Instagram-channel. This week .fount are head over heels with Harun Güler. The Berlin-based director with the keen eye of a photographer knows how to tell a story, both in still and in motion film. Without further ado we'd say: Check it out and give him some well-deserved kudos: Harungu.
fount > You’re not only a director, you are also experienced in post-productions for large commercials. How does this influence your work as a director?
Harun Güler > During the shooting day my mind has already done all the retouch, VFX and sound design during the shoot. That allows me to feel more efficient during the shooting day. I simply enjoy the whole post-production process, optimising every single frame.
fount > Your work impresses, especially aesthetically speaking. What’s the source of your visual thinking?
Harun > Thank you! I think it comes from my deep passion for photography and possibly also my MA in photography. I truly believe that a strong photograph can sometimes tell as much of a story as a feature length film. The majority of my video work derives from references by photography artists.
fount > Art & Commercial – not always easy to merge. How did you make it work in one of your latest projects with Ai Weiwei for Hornbach?
Harun > I think today, the idea of art vs. commerce is a bit outdated. Or as Ai Weiwei would put it: Art should be for everyone.
