The campaign is led by Special PR NZ for Trade Me Jobs. "With job searches peaking in January and reaching up to 245,000 views a day, we felt it was the perfect time to bring it back"
The festive fun is over, and millions of Kiwi are returning to the grind, sparking the annual spike in job listing views. In fact, data released by Trade Me Jobs highlights New Zealanders are more likely to search for a new job this week than any other.

Building on last year’s hugely successful Job Hunt January campaign – which saw thousands of exploring new opportunities, including over 70,000 views of the KFC Wicked Wing Taste Tester role – Trade Me Jobs is back to offer even more ways for Kiwi job seekers to turn their passions into pay checks. This year, three new and unique roles have been created to reflect the nation’s passions:

A pair of ‘Overseas Enthusiasts’ for Kathmandu, with the job description reading: “Have you and your best mate ever dreamed of travelling the world together full-time? Well, Kathmandu is offering you the chance to get paid to live your dream! This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity invites you and your best mate to embark on an epic journey across the globe, sharing your incredible experiences with the world. You and your travel partner will be fully equipped with the latest Kathmandu adventure gear as you embark on an epic global journey. Your mission? To document and share your travels through captivating content that inspires others to embrace getting out there.”

A ‘Whopperologist’ for Burger King, with the job description reading: “Are you serving taste? This whopper of an opportunity might just be for you. As the Whopperologist, your mission isn’t just to taste – it’s to measure, evaluate, and ensure the quality of Burger King’s legendary Whopper. Your job is to inspect every element, from its famous flame-grilled patty to the freshness of each topping, ensuring it meets the highest Burger King standards. Think you can handle the heat? It’s time to prove your palate reigns supreme.”

A ‘Chief Good Boy (or Girl) for Animals Like Us, with the job description reading: “Does your furry friend have star power? Are you ready to put your pet in the spotlight? Animals Like Us believe our pals deserve cool jobs like us, and we’re on the hunt for a Chief Good Boy (or Girl) to represent the brand and create some tail-wagging content for their social media channels. As the Chief Good Boy, you'll be your pet's personal talent manager, ensuring they’re camera-ready and delivering pawsome content. From performing tricks to showing off their goofy personality, your pet will be the face (and tail) of Animals Like Us.

With Job Hunt January returning for a second year, Trade Me Jobs has once again partnered with Special PR to bring these roles to life.

Special PR was responsible for campaign development, content creation, media relations and brand partnerships; and worked alongside media agency MBM for amplification.

"After a successful Job Hunt January last year, we knew we had something special," says Nicole Williams, Head of Trade Me Jobs.

"The campaign resonated with Kiwi in a big way, and with job searches peaking in January and reaching up to 245,000 views a day, we felt it was the perfect time to bring it back, bigger and better this year.

"Teaming up again with Special PR and MBM, we've refreshed the campaign with a new batch of intriguing roles designed to spark excitement and curiosity. From Whopperologist to Chief Good Boy, and even a dual role

Overseas Enthusiasts, Job Hunt January highlights the incredible variety of opportunities on Trade Me Jobs. A big thank you to our job partners Kathmandu, Burger King and Animals Like Us for creating and facilitating these one-off roles. All three brands are fantastic places to work and have a range of wonderful jobs listed on Trade Me Jobs that they are recruiting for now.” Williams adds.

Natasha D’Souza, Group PR director at Special PR, commented, “After last year’s success, we embraced the challenge from Trade Me to bring the campaign back in a fresh way. We hope to see Job Hunt January become an ongoing ownable platform for Trade Me Jobs that grows and adapts year on year.

We had a lot of fun working with each of our job partners to create these charming new roles. It’s probably a good thing the Special team can’t apply for any of them, or I think we’d have a problem!”

All the jobs listed are temporary paid roles, and applications are open now. Don’t miss out – apply before the deadline on Friday, January 31. Click Here to apply today

Trade Me data: 25-31 January had the highest average number of views in the 2 year period between 2022-2023. 2024 not counted due to campaign period skewing data.
