Joshua Kane filled the 2,286 seater London Palladium for what has been hailed as London Fashion Week’s biggest capacity show

On Friday 17 February, the largest fashion show ever to happen in London took place at the iconic Palladium theatre in front of over 2,200 guests. The Department were coproducers of Joshua Kane’s landmark AW17 runway show, which was one of the highlights of London Fashion Week.

Joshua Kane filled the 2,286 seater London Palladium for what has been hailed as London Fashion Week’s biggest capacity show. The collection was presented in the most theatrical of bespoke sets designed by David Gardiner, and the show featured performances by dancers Amy McTee and Ruaridh Bisset from the Central School of Ballet, directed by Heidi Hall. The dancers wore specially tailored versions of Joshua's signature three-piece suits.

The theme of Joshua Kane’s AW17 runway show was ‘Journey’, and the audience were treated to a visual journey choreographed by Andy Turner (Mass Movement) with assistant choreographer Gaz Davis, featuring models wearing the exquisite tailoring of Kane’s AW17 collection, ballet and live music from a classical string quartet.

The Department have regularly collaborated with Joshua Kane and supported his stratospheric rise to the top of the fashion industry, and in 2016 Joshua had a starring role in The Department’s immersive experience with Jude Law to launch the Lexus RX.

Jonny Grant, Creative Director of The Department commented: “We’re proud to be supporting Joshua Kane, an outstanding talent who we have collaborated with at The Department since early in his career. We’re excited by his impressive trajectory and that his propensity for the theatrical has led to one of the largest fashion shows Fashion week has ever seen and the first in the iconic London Palladium.”

Joshua Kane commented: “Working with different artists and creatives has always been something I do each season. As this show was the biggest production we have ever produced, it took a huge amount of structure and organisation. Having production support from The Department, and the expertise of other skilled creative in their fields, is the reason the show was such a success, and I am hugely grateful for their part in the #JoshuakaneJourney.”

Set designer David Gardiner designed a multi-level scenography for the models to walk through, before they mingled with the audience giving them a close-up view of Kane’s creations. The top tier of the theatre was made available to the general public, opening up the high-fashion experience beyond the VIPs and press.

Sky Sharrock and Massimo Petracca (Lowkey Productions) co-directed and co-produced a film of the show.
