Leading up to the 25th anniversary of the massacre at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal, where 14 women were killed, YWCA Canada and Juniper Park are creating a social media tool that will allow people to take action, however small, on the issue of violence against women.
We all know that physical and sexual violence is wrong. But there’s an onslaught of images, videos, tweets, news clips, music lyrics, and posts that we see on a daily basis, where women are belittled, objectified, and attacked.
Juniper Park wanted to make it easy for people to stand up and say it’s NOT OKAY. So a tool was created in the form of a hashtag - #NOTokay (#PASCorrect en français)– that can be used to point out anything from a misogynistic tweet to a TV show where women are gratuitously beaten, raped, and killed.
