Caymanite looks back on the adventures of 2024 and the opportunities ahead in 2025

As 2024 comes to a close, we at Caymanite reflect on a year of tremendous growth and creativity. This year was filled with problem-solving and projects that pushed us to new heights and expanded our storytelling capabilities.

One highlight was our conservation film in the Caribbean, set on the serene yet endangered island of Cayman Brac. This documentary illuminated the delicate balance between development and conservation, focusing on the endangered Brown Booby bird and invasive species challenges. The project amplified vital conservation efforts and brought us closer to the island’s vibrant community.

"This film was a passion project for us," said Armin Korsos, founder of Caymanite. "Cayman Brac is a place of incredible beauty, but it's also facing urgent environmental challenges. We felt a deep responsibility to tell this story in a way that could inspire change."

We also ventured into new territory with our first non-English film, a heartfelt surfing documentary in Mexico. Directed by Ethan Edmunds, a talented director based in Los Angeles, this collaboration couldn't have happened without him. Capturing the profound connection between surfers and the sea, this project proved that sometimes simple is what does it best - a short story with stunning visuals. Collaborating with colourist Clark Griffiths from Bruton Stroube was a pivotal moment, elevating the visuals to a whole new level.

"This was a first for us in so many ways," Armin reflected. "From working with non-English-speaking participants to capturing the raw emotion of the surf culture, it broadened our perspective as filmmakers."

Another exciting venture was an extreme sports documentary on cyclist Phil Fox, who set out to break the record for cycling 500 miles around Lake Ontario in just over 30 hours. This inspiring journey showcased the resilience of the human spirit and required meticulous planning, high-energy cinematography, and teamwork.

"Filming Phil's journey was a testament to what happens when sheer willpower meets preparation," Armin shared. "Seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding. The challenges behind filming this world record were immense, but overcoming them made the project even more special. "The actual behind-the-scenes of the film is just as riveting as the film itself," Armin Korsos explained. From capturing dynamic footage to navigating international borders, the crew was right there alongside the action. Documenting 24 hours out of 30 total hours of riding time around Lake Ontario was no small feat. The team’s dedication and effort showcased the level of commitment needed to bring such an ambitious story to life."

None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedicated crews and collaborators who worked tirelessly alongside us. Their unique talents made every film not just a project but a true labour of love.

This year was about investments and planting seeds for the future. We laid the groundwork for stories that matter, resonate, and inspire. As we look forward to 2025, we’re excited to release the original content we’ve worked so hard on. Post-production is underway for several films, and we’re preparing to focus on in-person events, screenings, and the vibrant film festival circuit.

"2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year for us," Armin concluded. "We’re not just looking to release films; we want to create experiences that bring people together, spark conversations, and leave lasting impressions."

We are deeply grateful to the individuals and communities who trusted us to tell their stories this year. Their courage and authenticity fuel our passion for filmmaking. As we move forward, we remain committed to honouring their trust and sharing stories that leave a lasting impact.

Here’s to the adventures of 2024 and the opportunities ahead in 2025. Thank you for being part of our journey.
