Last Sunday October 6th, Mamma premiered RICHFLU at the SITGES 2024 - Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya, a co-production with NOSTROMO PICTURES , BASQUE FILMS and FABULA PRODUCCIONES, directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Additionally, the team at Mamma announces that the film will hit theatres across Spain on January 24, 2025, distributed by Filmax.
Much like he did in The Platform, Galder once again tackles the growing debate on social and class disparities with a raw and ironic tone. When a deadly virus starts to affect the wealthiest members of society, the richest people in the world begin to fall, disrupting the established social order and triggering global chaos.
According to Galder, “Over the past twenty years, the number of billionaires has increased fivefold. From a young age, we're told that by studying and working hard, we can rise up the social ladder and secure a comfortable position. Our entire society values individual success as the ultimate goal, even when it involves cutthroat competition with zero empathy. Rich Flu is a dark fable for our times. It's a social satire, both humorous and tragic, presenting us with almost inconceivable tasks: giving up all our possessions, bank accounts, and renouncing all our worldly goods to escape the strangest of epidemics."
The film features an international cast including Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ahsoka), Timothy Spall (Spencer), Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos), Rafe Spall (The Ritual), and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid).
