Not many brands can say they’re integral to the Irish Christmas experience, but Tayto can. In almost every home in Ireland, hidden under the stairs or behind the couch in the 'good room' sits the famous Tayto Xmas box, waiting to be opened. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without it.
This was the insight that led to the development of the first ever Tayto Christmas commercial.
The heart-warming piece, conceptualised by Publicis Dublin and beautifully brought to life by Outsider’s Karien Cherry, brings two treasures together for what we’re sure will be a Christmas classic for many years to come.
The spot shows Santa returning home on Christmas night only to discover that he hasn’t received any presents himself. Fortunately for Santa, there’s another red suit clad icon ready to save the day - Mr. Tayto.
Because as every Irish person knows, it wouldn’t be Christmas without Tayto.
Ger Roe, creative director at Publicis said, “Working on Ireland’s favourite crisp brand is a real privilege. I really loved working on this with the team at Tayto, but beyond the film, what really excites me is the idea of establishing a new tradition in homes all across the country – people leaving out bags of Tayto for Santa on Christmas Eve”.
Karen Muckian, business director at Publicis said, “Having grown up in a household where we’d struggle to make it to Christmas day with a full ‘Crispmas’ box, it is a real treat to bring this insight to life in such a beautiful and engaging way. This solidifies Mr Tayto as the Christmas icon he has always been”
Carol McCaghy, marketing manager at Tayto said, “The Tayto Christmas box has been a staple in Irish households and this year one in every two households will have a Christmas box under the tree. This iconic piece of storytelling is the perfect nod to the dear place Mr.Tayto holds in the hearts of the nation. This touching tale invokes a delightful sense of Christmas mystery and excitement within the viewer and will no doubt signal the start of Christmas for years to come!”
