Oskar illustration introduces exciting new talent to its studio, Amsterdam-based animation director Beans Sr.
During his formative years, Beans Sr received a comprehensive education on weird '80s movies from his older brother, which unfortunately both shaped and warped most of his tastes. Drawing inspiration from janky, animatronic characters in Beetlejuice, Labyrinth, and Gremlins, Beans Sr’s work is characterised by his British humour, grotesque character design, and the heightened reality environments that his characters inhabit.
Beans Sr sculpts his characters in VR, giving them a digitally handmade aesthetic. He brings these characters to life using various 3D software, often using multiple programs on one project to achieve his distinctive style.
In the physical world, Beans Sr is known as Jamie Aubin. He plays an impressively low standard of padel and can often be found running from his demons in and around Amsterdam.
On joining Oskar illustration Jamie said, "At the start of my career as a producer, Oli was my line manager showing me the ropes of production, igniting my love for creative and production craft. We’ve kept in touch ever since and when the opportunity to work together again came about I had to jump at it. I’ve witnessed over the years how great a home Oskar Illustration is for artists and I know we share many of the same values when it comes to creativity and life itself, so it felt like the perfect fit".
Founder Oli said of Jamie, "Having known Jamie for several years, I've witnessed his skills and artistic talents grow. I love how he's always pushing the tech to craft his creative vision which still requires hands-on crafting. And the output is unique, often relatable, sometimes not, and usually very weird. I love it. Jamie is so driven and he makes me laugh. Both added bonuses."
