On first glance, the new music video for the rare gem that is Paloma Faith looks to be all about THAT pink dress. But Riff Raff director David Wilson’s latest bold and beautiful creation is about something of a different colour entirely: Gold.
Paloma and her posse of dancers from the Theo Adams Company kicked up a fair amount of dust along with their heels whilst filming during a heatwave back in August - when the inspiringly determined star also happened to be in her first trimester of a high-risk IVF pregnancy.
While the video shines with sheer delight throughout, David Wilson reveals it’s the people who are like gold dust that are really the inspiration behind the video; “Hackney, East London, has been gentrified beyond belief over the last 15 years. Like many areas of world cities, gentrification of a previously rough and poor neighbourhood has been tearing apart the communities. Pricing long-established businesses out of the area and born-n-bred families out of their homes.
Hackney is also home to myself and Paloma (although Paloma’s much more Hackney than me, having lived here her entire life). With property getting more expensive by the minute, this video is a statement, told through a fantastical Paloma-lens, about the real Gold of East London; the people that live in here, the community, and camaraderie.”
