Toronto-based music and sound company PIRATE SOUND has collaborated with agency Cosette to launch a trio of mouth watering spots for Egg Farmers of Canada. The trio of films – ‘Whisk, Whisk, Whisk’, ‘Flip’ and ‘On the Green’ – marry the drama and excitement associated with high-performance sports with the fun of cooking eggs through creative and effective sound design and audio production.
Directed by Anton Josef, the campaign is currently airing on broadcast and through online advertising, harnessing the passion shared for sport globally. Through using their knowledge and talents in the field of sound, the adverts were able to convey a strong sense of enthusiasm for both sport and eggs combined.
Sound directors Vanya Drakul and Kyle Anderson were brought into the creative process early on, closely studying the sounds that not just enthusiasts but also athletes associate with sports events. This includes the tone, energy and emotion that come from sports broadcasts, such as athletes grunting, sports equipment banging, and crowds cheering. Each spot featured sound design tailored to a specific sport, such as gymnastics, rowing, and golf, pairing the fun visuals of cooking eggs with the sounds we associate with our favourite sports to rouse emotions of excitement, exhilaration, and joy.
Kyle Anderson, sound director at PIRATE SOUND, shares, “Our goal was to give our hero product, eggs, the energy and enthusiasm of high-performance sporting events. Each spot had its own unique and specific sonic identity related to each sport. It's the small, more subtle sound effects, for example, the rattling of oar locks as a rower completes their stroke while watching a fork whisk eggs that audiences may not consciously register but it's these subtle details that subconsciously connect people emotionally."
