The Planetary Guardians and its creative agency partner, AKQA Bloom, today announce the launch of their sustainable bracelets alongside the Planetary Health Check (PHC), a groundbreaking scientific tool designed to monitor and protect Earth’s vital organs—our planet’s essential life support systems. The PHC provides real-time data on the health of critical ecosystems, serving as an urgent call to action for safeguarding the environment.
The Planetary Health Check is the inaugural initiative from The Planetary Boundaries Science (PBScience), a new collaboration led by Professor Johan Rockström and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), with support from the Planetary Guardians and other global partners. This scientific effort is focused on quantifying the pressures on Earth's biophysical boundaries, offering a practical solution to mitigate the climate crisis.
To mark the launch of this initiative, The Planetary Guardians Bracelet will be launched at Climate Week. Guests will be given the bracelet as a symbol of their commitment to Planetary Guardianship, encouraging them to wear it during discussions and engagements worldwide as a reminder of our commitment to planet earth. The bracelet, conceptualised, designed, and developed by AKQA Bloom, is crafted from sustainably sourced, reclaimed wood that can be produced at scale, reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainability. Alongside the bracelet itself, Bloom has also created a launch film and complimentary social assets in support of the Planetary Guardians Health Check.
Renu Sabherwal, communications director at Planetary Guardians said, “We are thrilled with the innovative design AKQA Bloom has created for the Planetary Guardians bracelet. Their use of reclaimed wood reflects our commitment to people and the planet. This collaboration showcases the perfect blend of purpose and creativity, and we are excited to present this piece during the Planetary Health Check launch.”
AKQA Bloom ECDs and founders Jean Zamprogno and Fernando Pellizzaro said, “We are thrilled to partner with Planetary Guardians one more time and bring forth for the industry a true symbol of protecting the Earth. Because wood is one of the original and most important carbon capture “technologies”, it was the perfect material for our symbolic bracelets that we hope will inspire its owners to continue our dire conversation even beyond the parameters of Climate Week.”
The Planetary Guardians aim to elevate science that can help reverse the deadly consequences we are already facing. The Guardians believe in a bright future where we can live in a healthy partnership with the planet. They believe that we have everything we need to get there; we now just need the right level of global coordination and willingness so that everyone, everywhere becomes a planetary guardian.
