British composer, performer and KPM favourite, Alan Hawkshaw, passed away last week. Amongst many commercial credits, Alan was one of the godfathers of production music, and penned some of the best-loved KPM tracks of all time; including Chicken Man (Grange Hill theme), Countdown, Dave Allen At Large, Beat Me ‘Til I’m Blue and Girl In A Sportscar. Dubbed the ‘Hero of the Hammond’ due to his signature sound, his tracks have also been sampled by a number of commercial artists.
All five members of the KPM All Stars were reunited for a live show at the British Library in October 2018 and we were honoured to witness ‘The Champ’ play some of his best work to an adoring crowd.
Having received a British Empire Medal this year for his contributions to the music industry, Alan’s work will continue to be celebrated and recognised for generations to come.
In deepest love and respect, we’ve put together a collection some of Alan’s most-beloved tracks.
