Featuring legendary artists like Floating Points, M.I.A, The Chemical Brothers, and Blondie, we’ve put together this playlist to celebrate the art of sampling that continues to inspire and redefine music today.
Loleatta Holloway’s ‘Love Sensation,’ is the most sampled track in the BMG recorded catalogue. Released back in 1980, it took off when the catchy hook ‘cause you’re right on time’ was featured in Black Box’s ‘Ride On Time.’ Since then, the original has been sampled by a slew of artists like Pet Shop Boys, Moby, Chase & Status, Flo-Rida, Fisher, ANOTR, Sam Feldt, Todd Terry, and many more.
For years, producers and artists have been trawling through library music archives to find those lesser-known tracks that can add depth and character to modern tracks. We’ve done some digging ourselves to showcase samples from Tele Music and Valentino - iconic production music labels from the ’70s. Originally crafted for media, these tracks have been rediscovered by today’s big name artists including Floating Points, Soulwax, and Eminem. Just last year, NTS put together ‘The NTS Guide To: Tele Music’, highlighting some of the label’s best releases, from jazz to acid rock and folk. It’s well worth the listen if you want some sampling inspiration.
Whether you’re a music maker, a music lover, or just someone who enjoys uncovering the origins of familiar songs, this playlist offers a glimpse into some of BMG’s best samples to wrap up your summer.
