Batman returns in a limited series for DC Black Label. Rafael Grampá, who boasts credits including DKR: Golden Child and BZRKR, wrote and drew the upcoming graphic novels. Gargoyle of Gotham is set to release on Batman day, September 16th. The series was heavily publicized at this year’s San Diego Comic Con with an impressive roster of variant covers provided by other renowned artists. The momentum kept rolling weeks later with the release of a hype film.
The film illustrates the true story of Grampá’s lifelong journey toward this career milestone. “As a child, I saw the knight from Gotham. He was the first character I remember drawing and dreamed of meeting him. He became a lifelong obsession and a dream that came true,” recounts Grampá. In this instalment of the franchise, Bruce Wayne’s alter ego will be envisioned not as a knight, but as a gargoyle.
Vsions Studios produced the film in association with Tropical Film on set in Brazil. Red Knuckle Studio brought the animations to life with Da House composing an original score. The award-winning Splash Studios provided post production in tandem with long-time collaborator Victoria Lechevalier.
Senior editor Rigel Kilston cut the film with assistance from emerging filmmaker Dex Kerr. In-house colourist Luke Osborne provided a punchy, striking grade in tribute to the artwork in the forthcoming comic books.
“From the moment word of this project reached our desks, the whole team could not have been more thrilled. All of us at Splash Studios are lifelong Batman fans and it’s been an honor to depict this beloved character in our work,” said head of operations Peach Rizzo.
In addition to hype films, Splash Studios provides full post on music videos, fashion films, and commercials. Their work is internationally acclaimed.
