Small Talk with Director Bugsy Riverbank Steel

Welcome to CINQ's 'Small Talk', an interview series spotlighting directors, DOPs, and other talented crew. In the latest interview, we hear from director Bugsy Riverbank Steel on his dream job as a child, love of cooking, and analogue vs. digital. 

Q> Are you made of steel? 

Bugsy> Yes and I hate kryptonite. 

Q> How easy, or hard is it to work with Stanley Tucci for a director? 

Bugsy> Stanley was lovely to work with and we have now done three projects together. I have been lucky enough to work with a number of celebrities and find them all to be great to work with as long as you have your shoot under control and respect their time.

Q> If someone wanted to write a book about you, what genre would it be?

Bugsy> I have no idea but I personally love thrillers, so it would be great to be in one. 

Q> What was your dream job when you were 10 years old?

Bugsy> I always wanted to join the Navy and dreamt of working on submarines.

Q> Analog or digital? 

Bugsy> Digital as you can make it look like analogue and have the flexibility to do what you want.

Q> How do you relax?

Bugsy> I cook. I love cooking and eating and anything to do with food. 

Q> Have you ever shot in Czech? How was your experience?

Bugsy> I have shot in Prague so many times I forget how many. The Czech crews are some of the best in the world and very relaxed so I love shooting with everyone there. 

Q> What do you prefer to shoot? Clever comedy or social drama? 

Bugsy> I prefer social drama as my life is already full of jokes.

Q> Can you read people?

Bugsy> No. But I find that if you are nice, treat people with respect and don’t think that being a director makes you important then I find most people are pretty easy to get along with.
