It’s been quite the summer at Grand Central as they prepare to relaunch their brand with some exciting new hire announcements, supercool studio updates and swishy new corridor carpets.
The team have been chilling on their sunny roof terrace, frying patties and hatching plans as they look to move on from the legacy of previous leadership team Carole Humphrey and Ivor Taylor, say goodbye to the old GCRS, and remaster as the new Grand Central.
"‘Having such an amazing roof terrace has given us a great opportunity to hang out up there, getting to know the staff and clients (and enjoy the view!)" say Simon Kanjee and David Barrett, the new managing directors and champions of fresh corridor carpets.
"We are delighted to have taken over such a fantastic facility – we have inherited genuinely the best audio suites in Soho. It’s so much fun breathing life back into such an incredible audio facility. The team here are fantastic, and we look forward to growing the business and producing more amazing work."
And this energy shift is certainly packing some punch.
Jasper Cable-Alexander’s film for Floyd, sound design and mixed by GC’s Tom Keats, just scooped a Shiny award. It has also been nominated for Best New Director at the Sharks, as well as Best New Editor for Becca Spaven.
Tom always enjoys the packing process. “Floyd is a proper bit of me - a super fun spot which has been beautifully crafted from all angles so the recognition it's receiving is more than deserved."
Tom is currently mixing his first feature length doc “Rockall’ coming soon. "Rockall has been a great process and I think Aaron has made a stunning film. I can't wait for it to be out there in the world and to hear her in the cinema," he says.
The sound design team have all been working collaboratively on some exciting cinematic and immersive projects too. Will and Gary are feeling all pumped up (like Larry) working alongside a local exhibition on an upcoming sonic installation.
"We are fully equipped to tackle any project with precision and innovation. We have an exceptional team here at GC all willing to pitch in and help out. Rent-a-crowd and foley sessions always make for great entertainment. Keats is very familiar with all the attachments on a Vax carpet cleaner," says Will.
With their relaunch and fresh website just around the corner, we look forward to hearing much more soon from the new team at Grand Central.
