Creative agency Something Different recently worked with the Fox Sports marketing team on a creative promo campaign for its popular FS1 show 'Undisputed,' with 'Eulogy,' a humorous spot featuring host Skip Bayless’s passionate, uncompromising voice and featuring his new co-hosts Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson.
Celebrating 'Undisputed's' unique combination of unmatched sports knowledge and spirited debate, 'Eulogy' demonstrates the hosts’ (and by extension all real sports fans’) inability to think about anything other than their favourite team, even at an occasion as serious and solemn as a family funeral, proving that ‘When your brain is filled with sports, there isn’t room for much else.’
In the promo, which debuted on Thanksgiving across FOX Sports’ college and NFL line up, Skip turns his eulogy into a series of impassioned rants about his team’s performance, while 'Undisputed' co-hosts Michael Irvin and Keyshawn Johnson look on supportively. The ad conveys the chemistry of the show’s new crew mixed with edgy humour, while saluting their passion for football.
Directed by Clay Weiner, whose performance-driven comedic style and indie spirit has guided his award-winning career, 'Eulogy' fits right into a resume that includes high-profile campaigns for Netflix, Infiniti, and Common Sense Media’s award-winning #DeviceFreeDinner PSA (starring Will Ferrell).
Since the spot’s kick off, fans have been reacting with enthusiasm to the promo’s humour and authenticity. And, Skip and Michael even discussed the spot on the show, with Michael sharing acting advice he received from Adam Sandler on the set of 'The Longest Yard' which he channelled during filming and Skip reflecting on how the spot is meant to poke fun at themselves because they can't stop thinking about sports.
