Lyons Tea have moved from pyramid bags to square ones, causing ripples across the mugs of Irish tea drinkers up and down the country. Helming the creative behind this transition is Showrunner with their ‘We’re Square’ platform - a loving tribute to everything wholesome, quaint, or unhip.
After a campaign involving a Dublin Airport Skywalk Special, a whimsical Square Tea Party for influencers, a square newspaper in the Irish Independent, and more ‘square’ merch than leaves in a tea bag, they’ve now reached their final piece of creative for the campaign- a corny chat show called Square Talk, made in collaboration with JOE.ie.
The final episode of this digital series aired this past week, with Irish influencer and comedian Michael Fry finishing up his role as the host, Michael Square. In each episode he brings on experts of niche, square hobbies to talk about their passions, and to take part in several games that put all of these enthusiasts to the test.
The first episode stars Susan Banks, a crochet artist who specialises in tea cosies that are made to look like different characters and celebrities, with her biggest claim to fame being Michael Tea Higgins.
This was then followed by an episode focusing on Origami Danny, one of Ireland’s few origami wizards who makes his own paper and can turn it into anything from a dragon to a bouquet of flowers.
The final episode, with juggler Stephen McGinley, was a deep dive into all things circus, as the veteran performer shared the secrets of juggling and the terror of clowning.
Cutdowns of the series aired across Lyons, JOE, and Michael’s channels, including Lyons new Instagram, @lyonstea.ie. You can catch all the episodes of Square Talk here, or visit JOE’s YouTube.
