Stevie Russell, in collaboration with Irish Creative Agency This Greedy Pig, has just released a new music video for the Choice Music Prize-winning duo 'Ships'.
Stevie said: “Ships have created a beautifully nostalgic track. For me, it evoked the awkward pain of young love. The uncertainty and the confusion of it all, the regretful moments where you feel you’ve blown it and the world is collapsing, but you’re still a kid so you dance it off. I wanted to frame this feeling through the prism of what I was watching at that age. We got really lucky with the two kids, Sam Hardy and Elena O’Connor. They nailed the feeling.”
Speaking about the experience of working with Stevie, Ships’ Simon Cullen said: “From the offset, we didn't sit down and chat with Stevie about what the song was all about, which was great! It's a real thrill to discover that someone else imagines a story in a song in a new way, and especially so to hear or see that through their work. That something in the song spoke to him and he followed his feeling and interpretation is great – we're big fans of that.”
Ships’ Sorca McGrath said: “We couldn't be more proud to have his vision and our music together. It's a painfully beautiful visual realisation of the song. The story of young heartbreak is universal, as are anguish, hurt, rejection, regret and joy too. Stevie has captured all this and more and expanded the meaning of the song for us, which we are very grateful for.”
