Superprime Films announces the US signing of director Diego Contreras, a storyteller whose evocative imagery navigates the delicate balance between modernity and timelessness. His visual language is imbued with energy, introspection, and human grace - often juxtaposing the bold immediacy of the present with echoes of a deeper nostalgic past.
A former art director at BBDO NY, Anomaly, and CP+B, Diego shifted to full-time filmmaking in 2015, building a wide-ranging body of work across narrative shorts, music videos, and commercials for brands including Apple, Facebook, Ford, Reebok, and PlayStation.
From the warmth and connection of his Facebook piece, ‘Community,’ which spotlights the power of togetherness across diverse cultures, to the contemplative tones of Amica ‘More Human,’ a meditation on isolation in our tech-saturated world, Contreras’s work continually examines the dualities that shape modern life. His affinity for detailed character and world building shines in projects like iPhone 13 Pro and Final Fantasy XVI ‘Requiem,’ where custom-built sets and soundtracks converge to envelop viewers in vividly realised realms.
“I’ve always been drawn to tell stories that spark real wonder while staying grounded in authentic human experience,” says Diego Contreras. “Superprime shares my passion for crafting meaningful, beautifully crafted narratives, and I’m thrilled to join a team that values bold creativity and heartfelt humanity. Together, we’ll continue pushing visual boundaries while crafting stories that inspire and unite.”
Originally from Guatemala and now based in Los Angeles, Contreras’ heritage and cultural identity often shine through in his films and offer a unique perspective. He has earned recognition from Cannes Lions, Shots, Clios, The One Show, and Webby Awards. Drawn to projects that are fresh, unexpected, and emotionally resonant, he immerses himself in inventive characters, meaningful dialogue, and fully realised worlds. It’s this boundless curiosity and dedication to originality that propels his work forward, leaving a lasting emotional impact long after the final frame.
“We’ve been fans of Diego’s for a while now - his ability to fuse big cinematic moments with genuine human warmth is really special,” says Michelle Ross, founding partner of Superprime Films. “We can’t wait to see where he takes that vision next, and excited to bring his energy and heart to the Superprime family.”
