Tangerine has been the official bank of the Toronto Raptors since 2018. But more than just supporting the team like most sponsors, Tangerine has also made it clear that they’re 100% behind the fans as well. A fandom that goes coast to coast since the Raptors are Canada’s one and only NBA basketball team. Up to this point, messaging has been all about saluting fans and showing that we understand what it means to be one. It was time to do something different.
"We wanted to do more than just say that Tangerine is the official bank of Raptors fans, we wanted to prove it with action and find a unique way to give back to them,” says Jamie Marcovitch, executive creative director, john st.
Developed by Toronto creative agency john st., this NBA season Tangerine is owning the 'bank shot', the iconic basketball shot that goes off the backboard into the net, by launching the Tangerine Bank Shot Account campaign.
Now, every time the Raptors sink a bank shot, it will turn into a real bank for the basketball community, while also unlocking exclusive prizes for fans. For every bank shot made, Tangerine will deposit $1,000 into the Tangerine Bank Shot Account. Then at the end of the season, the money will all go towards basketball community initiatives. In addition, fans can sign up online to follow along and get a shot at winning exclusive Raptors prizes as the account grows.
Jamie continues, “The dunk is Jordan's, the 3 is Steph Curry's. The hope is that from this season on, whenever a Toronto Raptor sinks a bank shot, fans think of Tangerine.”
The campaign communication will be supported through a television, social, digital and various in-arena signage at Scotiabank Arena.
