Little Black Book (LBB) and Synapse Virtual Production (Synapse) are proud to unveil the first episode of The Voice of Virtual Production. This video interview series is assembling industry-leading experts in order to shine a light on the ways in which the production world is transforming, and discuss how to get the most out of cutting-edge virtual production technology.
The first episode begins the series with a bang, featuring an exclusive conversation between Academy Award-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser, ASC, ACS (‘Dune’, ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Batman’) and Synapse chief innovation officer and renowned cinematographer Christopher Probst, ASC (‘Mindhunter’, Nike, Apple, Taylor Swift).
In a discussion moderated by LBB’s features editor Adam Bennett, they unravel the present and future of virtual production and explore the cutting-edge workflows that are redefining filmmaking, cinematography, advertising, and beyond.
Over the course of their conversation, Greig and Christopher begin by reflecting on how virtual production is being used today before building up to discuss how the technology can be used to establish a sense of ‘truthfulness’ on-screen. Greig substantiates his points by suggesting how virtual production tech was leveraged to great effect on blockbuster projects like ‘Dune’ and ‘The Mandalorian’, whilst Christopher outlines the importance of education and an industry-wide shared understanding of virtual production in order to make the most out of its potential.
The launch of the series represents an exciting moment for LBB and Synapse, who are aiming to empower viewers with exclusive knowledge and insights from VP innovators to better understand the tech that’s transforming industries.
“We’re truly passionate about exploring new ideas and connecting with others who share our excitement for innovation in virtual production. We hope to spread that passion through this series, inspiring and empowering creators with knowledge and tools to embrace the transformative power of VP,” says Synapse’s co-founder and CEO Justin Diener. “It’s exciting to share these insightful conversations, and we look forward to engaging with the global filmmaking and creative technology community on our YouTube and other social channels so that, together, we can keep pushing the limits of what’s possible and shape the future of our industry.”
“As well as celebrating the greatest work, LBB and our readers have always wanted to discover more about how it gets made. That’s why we’re so excited to partner with Synapse on this one-of-a-kind series, which will open up conversations around virtual production like never before”, adds Adam. “It’s not about hype, bluster, or exaggeration - it’s about real experiences with a technology which is changing our industry in such fundamental ways.”
