The Favourite director comes at the fashion brand's spring/summer 2020 campaign from a surreal perspective
Yorgos Lanthimos' new film for fashion house Gucci features a number of horses luxuriating in unexpected environments.
The director and photographer, best known for Oscar-nominated feature films The Lobster and The Favorite, showcases the brand's S/S20 collection across the sites and streets of Los Angeles, from the Chateau Marmont hotel to a roadside car was. The clothes are - as one might expect - displayed on human models, but each scene contains an additional equine character too. Whether walking the aisles of a plane, taking a dip in an inviting azure pool or strolling along LA's wide streets, the horses all seem to be having a good time alongside their couture-clad human companions.
The film is unexpectedly odd, but once you know who directed it it all makes sense. Yorgos Lanthimos, who is represented commercially in the UK by Rattling Stick and in the US by Superprime, is known for his surreal, or at least offbeat, tendencies and anyone who's seen The Lobster knows he's worked with animals to considerable effect.
American Humane monitored the animal action on the set of the #GucciSS20 campaign. No animals were harmed.
